Mr. Mathias Schäfer specializes in social market economy, public finance, labor market and social politics.

Mr. Schäfer is Head of Team of Economic Policy at Politics and Consulting Department at Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), analyzing social developments and the impact on the German economy, including current demographic changes, the massive levels of debt in public budgets, and the tax system. The team aims to develop new approaches to reform and innovation, helping Germany to become more economically competitive under the requirements of increasingly globalized markets.

Prior to joining KAS in March 2003, he worked at the ministries of finance of the states of Berlin and Baden-Württemberg in their respective departments of budget control and taxation.
