Diagnosing Two Clusters of Two Regions of Georgia to Support Business Sophistication

PMC Research is studying the current situation in two clusters - the processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables cluster in Guria, and the poultry cluster in Kvemo Kartli - to analyze current business operations, to develop a cluster map and, finally, to elaborate both short-term objectives and a long-term vision for the development of the clusters.

“Referred to as agglomeration economies earlier in Alfred Marshall’s works, business cluster development has recently been recognized as an important concept for stimulating entrepreneurial competitiveness and sustainable economic development. As of today, with the concept being at an emerging stage in Georgia, our comprehensive study, which identifies the potential for prioritized business clusters’ development, will play a crucial role in strengthening the competencies and capacities of state and private entities in enhancing their understanding of the clustering approach and its benefits,” said Mr. Gaga Abashidze, Consultant at PMC Research.

The study is part of the “EU Innovative Action for Private Sector Competitiveness in Georgia (EU IPSC)” program, which is a joint initiative of the European Union and the following four UN agencies: the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO); and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
